WDW Welcomes Back Captain Eo!

The new sign that'll promote Michael Jackson's Captain Eo attraction! I have great news for all you Captain Eo freaks east of The Mississippi Delta! Disney has just announced a come-back of the film...Set to premier on July 2nd! If you live all the way on the other side of the world, not to worry. Cause Eo will visit Tokyo(June 30th) and Paris(June 12th) as well!

The unprecedented success after it's debut at Disneyland California has prompted Disney officials to spread the love around the world! Furthermore, they confirm the 3D spectacular will remain for an undetermined amount of time-Yet not forever. Eventually, either Honey, I Shrunk The Audience or something altogether new will eventually replace the attraction a couple of years down the road.

But hopefully they'll keep bringing the magic back again and again as a tribute to not only Michael Jackson but also George Lucas(Disney, if you ever expand upon this project, make sure he's on board...hint hint).

Michael Jackson Remixes Pt. 5

As with other Dangerous singles, Mr. Jackson hired a plethora of DJ's to master mix his 1992 hit Remember The Time. Such remixers included Teddy Riley(also the albums co-producer), Steve Silk Hurley, E-Smoove, Maurice, and Mo-Mo. Most of these can be found on the maxi single.

Michael Jackson Remixes Pt. 4

Frankie Knuckles and Tommy Musto were called by Mr. Jackson to remix In The Closet. Together, they laid down about 14 mixes of the track.

Unlike Tommy Musto, Frankie Knuckles continued to spud out his own versions to Michael's records right on through The History Era. In addition to this song, he inserted his own influence on "Rock With You"(particularly "Frankie Knuckles Radio Edit")", "Thriller", and "You Are Not Alone".
Below is a list of all fourteen takes these two House DJ's did for Michael Jackson's hit ""In The Closet"...

  • The Underground Mix

  • The Underground Dub

  • The Mission

  • The Mission Radio Edit

  • The Mix of Life

  • The Vow

  • The Promise

  • The Reprise

  • Club Mix

  • Club Edit

  • Touch Me Dub

  • KI's 12"

  • The Freestyle Mix

  • The Newark Mix

    Michael Jackson Remixes Pt. 3

A number of DJ's were specifically chosen to garner Michael's smash hit "Jam" with their own unique spin during The Dangerous Sessions. Such Remixers included "Rodger Rene Sanchez"(also known as The S Man), Maurice Joshua, E-Smoove(aka Eric Miller), Steve Silk Hurley, Teddy Riley(who also co-produce the album), and finally two other DJ's dubbed as "More Than Enuff" & "Atlanta Techno". Some of these remixes did not make the final cut of either the single nor the maxi. Below is a list of all the official interpretations done on "Jam".

    Michael Jackson Remixes Pt. 2

Starting from the early 90's, Michael began deputizing his remixing endeavors to quite a handful of prominent DJ's-Whoever was prominent and in demand at the time.

Some of the participating DJ's(aka "Mix-Masters") include "Maurice", "Brothers In Rhythm", "Rodger Sanchez", "Dallas Austin" "Paul Oakenfold", Track Masters", even well-known producers like Teddy Riley, R. Kelly, and Wil.I.Am.

These and many other DJ's pretty much had free reign with their mixing and layering techniques(with only few exceptions). Styles ranged from Techno(Roger Sanchez), Hip-Hop(Wycliffe Gene), to Latino(Tee's In-House Club Mix). Even Soundscape(like Butterflies Track Masters Remix) and Classical R&B(like Frankie Knuckles).

    The Dangerous Mixes

Today, I'd like to start with the album Dangerous. An album of what call his turning point.

No longer co-producing albums with Quincy, Michael hired then 23-year-old producer Teddy Riley to take his spot. Along with him came New Jack Swing. A then prominent sound along with Old School Rap and Dance Music.

Partly over fears of rejecting a subniche, Michael hired multiple DJs to mix his tunes for a whole new audience. To start out our journey, we'll look at the mixes of Jam.
Stay tuned til next time, for there is a lot!

    Michael Jackson Remixes Pt. 1

Ever since the 80's, it has become the norm for mainstream artists to include remixes to their official tracks(usually from a maxi, remix album, or single release). They might even add a stripped-down cut(either vocal or instrumental) to the track list. Obviously, it's no surprise that Michael Jackson would jump into this bandwagon.

Indeed starting from around The "Bad" Era, Michael filled most of his singles with stocking stuffers. Below is an exhaustive list of these official remixes.

    Michael Jackson Remixes

At first, Michael executed the remixes himself with Quincy Jones and Bruce Sweden. But starting in the early 90's(a.k.a. "The Dangerous Era"), he commissioned famous DJ's(from various backgrounds) to experiment and come up with their own tastes to his songs.
Below is an exhaustive list of those tracks...

Stay tuned for remixes from The Dangerous Era!

New MJ Snippet Leaks-Relish Those 7 Seconds!

On March 27th, two fellas(one an unknown studio secessionist) were in discussion about an unauthorized Michael Jackson outtake from The Invincible Sessions. The song is called "Can't Get Your Weight Off of Me" and is Co-produced by Rodney Jerkins back in the year 2000. For tales unknown, the track never made it on the final tracklist.

Well to make a long story short, the album cut was offered to Mickyj007(a prominent insider on many Jackson discussion forums) for $4,500! He simply refused(with a price tag like that, I to would do the same). But as an incentive(and a bad one at that), the undisclosed insider gave him only 7 seconds to warm up to the track(it's no wonder he lost the sale. 7 seconds does not convince a soul)...And on top of that, the snippet appears to be in somewhat bad quality(I mean seriously. If your gonna sell somethin', then by all means be persuasive).

Finally. Mickyj007 decided to upload the free sample for all to hear. Just 7 seconds to relish the not-so-perfect quality of "Can't Get Your Weight Off of Me". Enjoy(and by the way, the once thought instrumental to this song was actually taken from Brandy Norwood's "On Top of The World". In other-words, a fake)...

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008 Johnny Viciouse Club Remix

Johnny Vicious Club Remix is one of three takes on Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008. A remix of a remix another words(Though Legacy Records-A branch of Sony Music called "WBSS 2008" a revision rather then purely a remix). The others include The "Radio Mix" and the "Warehouse Thrilla Dub".

Now I'm not much for Club music unless I'm well at a club. But you can tell me what you think below...

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'-Tommy D Mix

In the early 90's, Michael Jackson called on Tom Danyers(aka DJ Tommy D) to remix Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. He's also been chosen for select tracks on The History Album.

I wasn't too fond of this one. I mean he did a fair job. However, it falls short of Brothers-In-Rhythm House Mix. Listen for yourselves...

Smooth Criminal Dance Mix Dub Version

Michael Jackson's vocals are scrubbed from the "Dance Mix Dubbed Version" of Smooth Criminal(the exception being awwww during the outro). As the title implies, the remix has been dubbed. A term that simply implies altering or mixing in a digital/previous recording into the track. In this case a remix.

    Smooth Criminal Annie Mix

Again Michael Jackson sticks to his old school formula with the "Annie Mix" of Smooth Criminal. Starting with an awesome acappella introductory, the remix heads into a somewhat similar format to the Extended Dance Mix. Other then an added Africanized drum-loop.

    Smooth Criminal-Extended Dance Mix

Here's the "Extended Dance Mix" to Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal. A bit more synchronized then the original with extended loops and and ab libs. As with all of Michael's "Bad" mixes, I'm sure you'll like this baby.

    Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'-House Mix

Again Michael Jackson calls on Steve Anderson and Dave Seamen(who both make up the duo "Brothers In Rhythm") to create a splendid remix out of his classic Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'. Together, this and couple other modern twists to classic MJ recordings can be found on various singles off his Dangerous Album.

Although I'm not much for House beats, these boys did a fairly good job synchronizing this baby! I came fearing a repetitive over-industrialized reinterpretation. But instead was given a surprise! Listen below...

    Leave Me Alone-Extended Dance Mix

Like many of The "Bad" Mixes, the Extended Remix to Leave Me Alone does not deviate too much from the official version. Save for a few more digital recordings mixed in. You can even hear Michael add in a few extra ab libs not contained within the final cut. I so wished he stayed in this frame of remixing(as opposed to appealing to the Hip-Hop and Clubhouse niche).

Another Part of Me-Extended World Mix

Now who could forget about The Extended World Mix of Another Part of Me. The sound and feel is very much like it's sister Extended Dance Mix sampler. Only the introduction and second half of the mix is a tad groovier!

My only fuss is with the resolution. Which abruptly ends in a bit of chaos. But if you don't mind that blunt, The Extended World Mix will leave you craving for more Michael Jackson 80's tunes! Check it out below...
